The NSW Retail Council acknowledges the passing of one of New South Wales most respected butchers, Cliff Penny.
Cliff was a third-generation butcher. His Grandfather Jeremiah Penny opened the first family store in William St, Woolloomooloo, Father Robert Penny traded in Rose Bay, and in the 1960s Cliff opened Penny’s Quality Butchers in Double Bay, Sydney.
Cliff traded for 25 years in the Double Bay shop, building up a loyal customer base, many of whom followed him over the Harbour Bridge in 1986 when he opened up a store in Mosman with son Stephen, daughter Karyn and niece Alison. Another of Cliff’s daughter’s, Jacqueline, opened the Mona Vale branch in 1989.
Cliff was a dedicated butcher all his life, following a great tradition set for him by his family. Cliff would be proud that the Penny butchery legend will continue on without him.
